Brooklyn, NY – S&M is the lovechild of Spottiswoode & McMahon, a couple of New York beatniks.
They have performed S&M together here and there. Spottiswoode usually performs with a Spanish guitar while McMahon plucks, bangs and blows on this and that.
They have entertained at most of New York’s unsavory establishments and at various secret parlors of the demi-monde from Paris to Los Angeles.
Cozy in the comfort of McMahon’s New Warsaw studio parlor in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, they recently invited some of their favorite musicians to perform S&M with them.
Paul Ossola (Buddy Guy, John Hiatt) brought his double bass.
Todd Reynolds (Bang On A Can, Steve Reich, Joe Jackson) brought several dozen violins.
Bruce Martin (Tom Tom Club, Wild Colonials) brought his tablas and bongos.
Kenny White (Sean Colvin, solo maestro) brought a grand piano.
Trevor Exter (cellist singer-songwriter phenom) sang some Portuguese.
Candace De Bartolo and Kevin Cordt (Spottiswoode & His Enemies) brought a sax and a trumpet.
Many other talented and sexy folk shared instruments, accents and a good old-fashioned submissive sense of adventure.
Spottiswoode arrived with a Polish kielbasa and a lot of tunes.
McMahon pulled out all his toys and then turned on his microwave oven.
The result? Spottiswoode & McMahon’s S&M!!!
