Who the young gigolo even is? Also a mystery.

Reports are that Tony (“Antonio”) first met the band here in Napoli, Italy. He was serving limoncello to the sweet-toothed Englishman when he spilled a bowl of truffle oil onto the lap of Spottiswoode’s former wife, Beate Goldstein. Antonio and Beate soon fell lin love. Spottiswoode’s heart was broken. The humiliation was unbearable. He had been jilted for an accordionist.

Perversely, Mr. Lauria didn’t just fall in love with Spotty’s wife. He fell in love with his music too. He followed the band back to New York as a stowaway on the US Aircraft Carrier Indulgent.

“He just started showing up for gigs!” says Spottiswoode. “What was I supposed to do? Tell him to bugger off?”
