WHEN I'M WITH YOU / by SPOTTISWOODE

Spott has released another music video from his forthcoming album, IT WASN’T IN THE SCRIPT. It’s another love ballad to his daughter.

“I make no apologies,” says the proud dad. “One way or another, the entire album is about the joys and indiginities of being a parent and getting older. WHEN I’M WITH YOU is the first tune I wrote about my daughter, Sophie Lee, and it’s one of three - yes, three! - love songs about her.”

THROUGH THE SHADOWS captures Spottiswoode chasing the seven year old version of Sophie Lee on her scooter; OLD MAN AT THE STATION (stay tuned for the video) is about meeting her at Paddington Station after she and her mother had been away; WHEN I’M WITH YOU is about pushing her in a stroller when she was a two-year old toddler.

“It’s a very personal and meaningful song for me. It’s not just a portrait of my daughter. It’s a kind of landscape painting of the part of London where I live, also a way of coming to terms with the emotional and geographical changes in my own life.”

Shot by Clare Elliott

Produced by Peter Fox at Brooklyn Pearl, the tune features Spottiswoode on vocals and electric guitar, Brian Geltner on drums, Drew Hart on bass, Kenny White on piano and Fender Rhodes, Peter Fox on melodica. The track was mixed and mastered by Michael Scherchen.

The video was shot by Clare Elliott on Primrose Hill and near Camden Lock. It features young Freja, the daughter of some dear friends.

“Sophie Lee is no longer a toddler so it would have been impossible for her to play a two-year-old. However, she does feature in the video albeit as a kind of extra. To be honest, it took me a while to get used to seeing someone else’s daughter playing my own, especially because the song is so personal. However, Freja steals the show! Big thanks to her and to her parents, Buddy and Lou.”
